Arts, Beats & Eats organizers have collaborated with designer Paul Martinez Jr. to create this year’s commemorative festival poster. For the first time, the poster features the work of a festival artist, with first-time featured artist Andy Koupal’s “Industrial Impression in Calcedonia” at its center. The artist’s three smokestacks offer a playful nod to the festival’s three pillars, and the piece evokes a hardworking urban feel while celebrating the delicate beauty of glass. Martinez carried the artwork’s warm color palette throughout the design, capturing the feeling of a summer sunset. As Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, the poster invites festivalgoers to enjoy the season’s final days with the art, music and food that define Arts, Beats & Eats.
Paul Martinez Jr. is a local graphic designer with over 20 years of experience, previously working for both Real Detroit Weekly and Detroit Metro Times as well as years of beverage management at many local Michigan festivals, including Arts, Beats & Eats. Andy Koupal, co-owner of a Detroit hot glass studio, previously worked at The Henry Ford, the Corning Museum of Glass and Simon Pearce. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the College for Creative Studies.
