With cancellations of nearly all summer art fairs and shows, fine artists have been notably impacted by the pandemic. Keeping the spirit of its past juried fine art shows alive in 2020, Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats & Eats launched Art by Appointment presented by The Detroit News. The 20 artist limited capacity event was hosted outside the Royal Oak Farmers Market on September 5-6, 2020 and resulted in $40,000 in art sales through out the weekend.
A $5 entry fee was charged. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit The Beats Go On Musicians Fund.

I traveled from Florida to Royal Oak, Michigan to participate in the Art By Appointment event held by Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats & Eats. In all honesty, I had zero expectations to make any sales but I was hungry to set up my booth and feel something like normality so I happily took on the nearly 19 hour drive. I am so happy that I took the opportunity. Besides the unseasonably cool, beautiful weather, Shannon, Heather and their supporting team went above and beyond to make the weekend a success for all of the artists. It paid off for all who participated. The crowd was sparse by social distancing necessity but the patrons were serious art buyers and I think all of us had a good to great show. Free electric was provided to all of the artists and the booth fee was only $100. There was ample press coverage to create a buzz about the event and it brought out the lovely and sophisticated people of Royal Oak. After 6 months of imprisonment without physical art shows it felt almost like a miracle to drive 1350 miles to Royal Oaks, MI, and set up my booth, my real 3D actual booth with real paintings, meet real life patrons and sell real paintings, wrap them in actual bags and shake hands with masked buyers.
I have no words enough to thank the Arts Beats and Eats team, namely Shannon Wojtas and Heather Hansen and all their colleagues.
They dared.
They did not surrender in a cowardly way, and they did not seek a financial profit. The booth fee was $100. There was free electricity for every booth. Patrons came by prepaid appointments and I estimate a total of maybe 250 all weekend, but these were serious buyers. From what I could tell every artist sold, some were really pleased, I was hugely surprised by my bottom line.
And the bonus is they invite all of us back for 2021 without jurying.
Shannon is a new young director who will take this show far. She put her soul into it.
