dinosaurs, explosions and edible insects: science becomes an adventure

Visitors can expect science with a healthy dose of spectacle when Cranbrook Institute of Science brings some of its most popular interactive experiences to Arts, Beats & Eats.

A towering Tyrannosaurus rex, high-energy experiments, live animal encounters and even edible insects will turn the festival grounds into a hands-on playground for curious minds of all ages.

Throughout the weekend, festivalgoers can experience Matter & Energy LIVE, where sound, motion and energy collide in a series of exciting demonstrations, and Dino-MITE! The Dinosaur Science Show, which brings audiences face-to-face with a life-sized T. rex while exploring the science behind Earth's most legendary predators.

The adventure continues with “Bugging Out: Meet, Make and Munch!”, where guests can interact with live Madagascar hissing cockroaches, create bug-inspired crafts and discover the fascinating adaptations that help insects thrive around the globe. Those willing to take their curiosity a step further can even sample edible insects while learning why they're emerging as one of the world's most sustainable food sources.

“Science is at its best when it sparks curiosity and invites people to participate,” said Lucy Hale, the Susan Flint Cooper Director of Cranbrook Institute of Science. “Arts, Beats & Eats gives us an opportunity to bring discovery beyond museum walls and create memorable experiences that connect people with science in unexpected ways.”
